Jeffrey Daniel Funk & Soul Jam - September 2023
Join us for a night of soul, funk and disco. Get ready to dance with Jeffrey Daniel as he selects the music that inspired him to perform, with help from Misoul’s Mike Vitti at the decks. We are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the legendary Top of the Pops performances when Jeffrey demonstrated the first ever moonwalk on European TV screens and created a street dance and body popping craze. Whilst promoting Shalamar hit singles he became the first ever artist to represent their record on the programme, purely using dance as the focal point. This performance changed music culture forever. Jeffrey has been an inspiration to millions of people across the world including the man he mentored – Michael Jackson. He went onto be a choreographer of the stars, working on videos for so many people.
Jeffrey is a founding member of the world famous soul funk group – Shalamar. They had a multitude of hits such as ‘Night to Remember, I Can Make You Feel Good, There It Is, Take It To The Bank, Make That Move, Friends, For The Lover In You, Uptown Festival and others.
For the Funk & Soul Jam Jeffrey puts aside the performing to bring you an evening of dance driven music – old school style. JD is your MC and the DJ is MV. Together the dynamic duo will bring a party to life with funk and soul classics. Bring your dancing shoes and be prepared for some moonwalking.

Jeffrey Daniel - The First Moonwalk on UK TV - Top Of The Pops
Jeffrey Daniel was the first street dance choreographer on MTV and is world renowned for his ground-breaking work with Michael Jackson.
The most popular dancer on US TV show Soul Train, JD became a founding member of the multi award winning and hit making group Shalamar. He performed the Moonwalk on US TV and was the first to do so on UK TV (Top Of The Pops) and taught the move to Michael. The backslide as it was then known became one of the most iconic dance moves of the 20th Century.
Jeffrey Daniel is a respected pioneer of the West coast street dance movement. He and his peers took a style of dance from the streets and clubs to the mainstream music and media world. A fusion of jazz, popping, locking, robotics, wack, house and hip hop merged into effortless sequences.
Jeffrey was the co-choreographer on ‘Smooth Criminal’ where he introduced “The Lean” to Michael, and on ‘Bad’. JD also appeared in both short films with his dance brother. He was later employed as a creative and choreography consultant on his world tours and the short films “They Don't Really Care About Us” and 'Ghosts'.
In addition to working with Michael, JD has choreographed videos for artists such as The Go Go’s (Belinda Carlisle), Vanessa Williams, LaToya Jackson, Randy Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, Johnny Gill, Sheena Easton, After 7, The Boys, Cheryl Lynn and Karyn White (world tour). In Hollywood he was a choreographer on the films "Three Men and a Baby" (Ted Danson, Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenburg) and "Twins" (Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger).
